Namiryu.com Nami Ryu Aiki Heiho is a school for training in the ancient martial arts that were the exclusive secret of the Samurai nobility. The curriculum covers a wide range of bugei (martial arts), which encompass skills that were once necessary for the Samurai warrior in the performance of his martial duties.

Biography of Matt Stano

Matt first started his journey of the sword in 2002 when he traveled with a friend to the small town of Lincolnton, North Carolina, just outside of Charlotte. It was his first meeting with Sensei Williams, and he was awestruck. How was Sensei Williams moving like that? It was so quick, and difficult to comprehend. Matt had to learn more. With his head filled with possiblilties, new movements, new styles, new concepts and principles, Matt returned home to ponder what he had learned that weekend.

There was still the sword, one of the most fascinating weapons of history. He had never seen anybody move like that. Matt wanted to be that swordsman; he wanted to follow that path. Since then, Matt has taken every opportunity he can to train with Sensei Williams. In 2005, Sensei Williams held the first Instructors Seminar for Nami Ryu Aiki Heiho. It was something amazing, joining a small group of people with the same passion; to pass on the most efficient martial system to other eager minds.

In his life outside of the dojo, Matt is a Microsoft Server Engineer, and computer consultant. He enjoys watching the New England sports teams, and shoveling the mounds of snow left by this seasons winter snowstorms, while his loving wife watches through the window while sipping hot chocolate.
